Hailing from Orange County, Ryan is a true local talent with a remarkable journey in volleyball. His high school years at Servite HS in Anaheim were nothing short of stellar, where he showcased his skills as a varsity setter for three years. Ryan’s leadership and prowess earned him recognition as a 2nd team all Trinity League player in his junior and senior years, and he proudly served as captain and MVP during his freshman and senior year.

Ryan’s club career was equally impressive, playing for Highline 16-1, Riptides South Bay 17-1, and Riptides OC 18-2, all of which successfully qualified for Junior Olympics. Notably, his 17s team secured a remarkable 5th place finish in the Open Division at JO’s. Ryan’s dedication and talent also earned him a spot on the USA Volleyball Boy’s High Performance Training Team.

Venturing into beach volleyball, Ryan competed in the California Beach Volleyball Association (CBVA) during high school, achieving an impressive “AA” status. Transitioning to collegiate play, Ryan made the NCAA recruiting list and served as a setter for UC Santa Cruz under coach Jonah Carson, marking the beginning of his college volleyball journey.

Post-graduation, Ryan’s love for volleyball continued to thrive, leading him to actively participate in the dynamic 9-man volleyball scene. The spirited Asian league became a significant chapter in his volleyball journey, providing an avenue for fierce competition and camaraderie. Over the last decade, Ryan’s team, the formidable Paai Kau Smash, has established itself as a dominant force, securing an impressive six championships in the fiercely contested North American Chinese Invitational Volleyball Tournament (NACIVT).

Ryan’s dedication to excellence and relentless pursuit of victory reached its pinnacle in 2023 when he was not only an integral part of Paai Kau Smash’s championship-winning performance but also earned the prestigious title of Most Valuable Player (MVP). This recognition reflects not only his exceptional skills on the court but also his leadership, sportsmanship, and ability to elevate his team to the highest level of competition.

As a seasoned player and influential figure in the 9-man volleyball community, Ryan’s achievements go beyond the trophy count. His commitment to the sport and his team has left an indelible mark, inspiring fellow players and earning him the admiration of fans and competitors alike. Ryan’s story in 9-man volleyball is a testament to his enduring passion for the game and his unwavering pursuit of excellence, marking him as a true standout in the vibrant world of Asian volleyball.
